cleaning right blinds

Roller Blinds are a versatile window dressing and can add timeless style to your home. Stylish and functional, they are the perfect window accessory to add a touch of sophistication to your space. Available in an array of gorgeous options, roller blinds beautifully complement the look of any room. However, to ensure that your blinds look great, there is the need for regular cleaning and maintenance. If you are looking for easy ways to treat your roller blinds with the care they deserve, the following tips will be of help.

To begin with, when you operate your blinds, check the window to ensure that there are no obstacles like window locks and handles. In instances when the window is open, the blind can bang against the frame in a windy weather. Besides, the blind can have a fallen down look if there are curtains that rub along the sides of the blind. This causes the plastic serrated wheel to rotate. Therefore, make sure that there are no window coverings in the way of the binds.

The Blind is Rolled the Wrong Way:

  • The chain must be pulled to lower the blind. Continue doing so even after the blind moves to the bottom. Following this, the blind will roll up on the correct side.

  • To ensure that that blind does not roll up the wrong way, do not let the blind be pulled up down or up too far.

Operating the Blind with the Chain:

  • Pull the chain gently in an even motion.

  • Jerking the chain may cause the blind to move towards one side and must be avoided.

  • To raise the blind, the front of the chain must be held and pulled downwards.

  • To lower the blind, the back of the chain must be held and pulled downwards.

  • If the chain is pulled to the side, it can lead the chain to detach or break from the blind.

  • If the blind is pulled from the bottom rail, it can detach. The ideal way to operate the blind is by using the chain.

While rolling up the blinds, make sure to stop before it reaches the top. If the blind is pulled too far, it can cause the blind to go over the top.

Similarly, when you wish to lower your blinds, make sure to stop before it reaches the bottom. Going too far down can lead the blind to lose its alignment. In such situations, it may not roll up straight.

There are stoppers fitted to the chain to ensure that the blind is not rolled far down.

Method of Operating Narrow Blinds:

Blinds that are extremely narrow have the tendency to move to one side and require positioning while being moved up. When using the chain, the bottom of the chain must be held and the blind must be accordingly guided.

Stretched Chain:

  • There might be some amount of stretching in the chain due to the construction process and this does not indicate a fault in the product.

Cleaning Roller Blinds:

  • The blinds can be cleaned by wiping gently using warm soapy and a soft cloth.

  • The blinds should not be scrubbed.

  • Roller Blinds must be rolled up only after they are completely dry.

The Material of the Blinds:

  • The material may take some time to acclimatize.

  • During the initial settling phase, you may face issues like curling at the ends. The best way to make your blinds settle soon is by pulling the completely down whenever using. Based on the existing weather, the blinds can take around 3 months to settle.

  • Using the bottom rail may cause puckering. This is not a manufacturing fault.

Using the Motorized Switches:

  • The three positions include:
    i) Up
    ii) Neutral
    iii) Down

  • The switches can be rotated to either of the above-mentioned positions.

  • The roller shutter stops automatically in the fully down or up position

  • If you wish to position the blind differently, you need to move to the neutral position.

  • After every use, make sure to switch to the neutral position.

Using the Remote:

The three positions include:

  • The three positions include:
    i) Up
    ii) Neutral
    iii) Down

  • You can use either the up or down button but make sure not to press the button continuously. As soon as the sun blind moves, remove your fingers from the button.

  • The roller shutter stops automatically in the fully down or up position.

  • If you wish to position the blind differently, you need to move to the neutral position.

  • After every use, make sure to switch to the neutral position.

If you notice that your motorized blinds are not functioning, begin by checking the power system of your home. Your batteries in the controller may require a change.

Battery Required:

For Somfy remote, you need the Energizer CR 2430 Lithium Battery (3V).

Reinstalling Blinds:

  • The blind must be rolled up.

  • The chain must be inserted onto the bracket with the covered section of the chain control towards the top.

  • For the idle end, the pin must be placed at the slot’s base on the bracket. The blind then needs to be pushed toward the centre of the slot. When locked, it will click.

Removing Blinds:

For removing a blind that is operated by a side chain, the following process needs to be followed.

  • Lying on the opposite end of the chain, there is a clear plastic serrated wheel.

  • The wheel needs to be rotated which in turn will retract the pin that lies on the bracket.

  • After the pin retracts, the blind will drop. Make sure to support the blind to prevent any damage.

Spring Operation:

  • Make sure to always use the centre pull.

  • When pulled from the sides, the blind may get damaged causing the blind to move at an angle.

  • Do not let go of the blind as this may lead the blind from getting detached from its brackets. It may damage the material of the blind.

If you notice that the aluminium tube is visible at the top, it means that you have pulled down the blind way too far. To rectify this, you need to lift the left side from the bracket and rotate the roller. This should be done until you notice that the material is around the roller. Following this, the blind must be put back in the bracket. Blinds that have the material rolling over the back have the spring on the left side. On the other hand, blinds with the material in front have the spring located on the right. Blinds above 2200 will have different degrees of ‘V’ing which cannot be removed.
